V-Day Quinto 2008 is determined to go a step further and take The Vagina Monologues ´s potential for education and social criticism beyond the impact of the performance itself.
The V-Day Quinto 2008 is an important part of a broader community project. Our main goal is to empower and promote the socio-political participation of women in our community. The objective is that women from Quinto, and not the theatre group, perform the play, making them the leading protagonists and empowering them to define and denounce their situation of vulnerability and/or inequality. This is encouraged throughout the play in two ways. On the one hand, the women acknowledge their capacities to exert social influence and leadership (by means of active political participation, making decisions and proposals for action); and on the other, through the real exercise and realisation of these capacities. From 12th to 16th of March there will be open an innovative, revolutionary, biting, provocative, astonishing and wonderful exhibition of vagina drawings “A world (with)out vaginas” at Jardiel Poncela Civic Centre in Quinto.
All members of our community, and from around the world, are invited to use any form of art together with their imagination and feelings to express what they understand as a vagina. The art works will be displayed for five days at Quinto´s civic centre.********************************************************
